So, you’re going to be a part of a bridal party, how exciting! It’s such a joy to stand up and support someone you love on one of the biggest days of their life.
As a professional makeup artist who has been a part of countless wedding mornings, I know that while the bride is the star, every member of the party wants to look and feel their absolute best, too. The secret to makeup that not only looks beautiful but lasts all night through photos, toasts, and dancing? It all starts before you even sit in my chair.
To help you prepare and get the most out of your professional makeup application, I’ve put together my ultimate bridal party prep guide, from what to do the morning of to how to get your skin glowing.
Your Wedding Day “To-Do” List
Here are a few small things you can do the morning of the wedding to help your artist get off to a perfect start.
- Arrive with a Clean Face: Please come to your appointment with a fresh, clean face. This means no leftover mascara from the night before! A clean canvas is essential for a smooth, long-lasting makeup application.
- Wear a “Get Ready” Outfit: To avoid messing up your beautifully done hair and makeup, it’s best to wear a button-up shirt, a zip-up hoodie, or a robe. This makes it easy to change into your dress without disturbing our work!
- Stay Hydrated: Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Hydrated skin is happy, radiant skin, and it helps your makeup look even more flawless. Plus, you’ll need the energy for the festivities ahead!
- Relax and Enjoy: This is the most important step! Take time to relax and soak in the special moments. A great MUA will make this a calm, fun, and pampering experience for you. Share laughs, capture photos, and cherish this time.
Want a Pro-Level Glow? Start Your Skin Prep Now.
You don’t need a complicated, 10-step routine, but a little extra skin love in the weeks leading up to the wedding can make a massive difference. If you want your makeup to look extra flawless and last all night, a healthy, hydrated skin barrier is the key.
- Start Early: If you can, begin focusing on your skincare at least two weeks to a month before the wedding day for the best results.
- Moisturize Religiously: This is the most crucial step! Keep your skin hydrated by applying moisturizer every morning and night. This creates a smooth, plump base for your makeup.
- Exfoliate (Gently!): Incorporate a gentle exfoliation into your routine once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells. This helps your makeup glide on effortlessly.
- Pro Tip: Do not try a new, harsh exfoliator the day before the wedding!
